Kurt Warner and Larry FitzgeraldThe UFL, apparently, is not immune to the controversies provided by Twitter.

Marcus Fitzgerald, the younger brother of Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, posted a stream of messages via his account on the networking site last week, criticizing Kurt Warner's play in the Cardinals' win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 20.

The younger Fitzgerald, a member of the UFL's California Redwoods, will apologize and do charity work for Warner, according to his brother, who sat down for an interview with Bob Costas that was aired during NBC's coverage of Arizona's 31-10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night.

"There was no friction at all," Larry told Costas about the relationship with his quarterback. "My brother, I love him dearly. We all make mistakes. We'll move past it."

Controversy sparked when Marcus posted messages that criticized Warner for not throwing the ball more frequently to Larry, who has been one of the most dynamic receivers in the NFL over the past few seasons.

Pro Football Talk, which is a subsidiary of NBC Sports, reported Marcus' folly in full last week, quoting many of his tweets, one of which stated, "Ok, another drive & kurt doesnt throw 2 larry. YOU OLD ASS MAN, THROW HIM THE DAMN BALL."

Ironically, Warner's Week 2 performance in a win over the Jaguars -- in stark contrast to his struggles Sunday against the Colts -- was the most prolific outing, completion percentage-wise (for a quarterback who has attempted more than 20 passes), in NFL history. He completed 24-of-26 passes to nine different receivers, including four to Larry Fitzgerald, one of which went for a touchdown.

Costas, rattling off these facts, sought an explanation as to why Marcus had a problem if everything was going so smoothly for his brother's team.

"What is the problem?" Larry said, echoing Costas' question. "That's what I asked my brother. ... My brother made a few comments and, obviously, he didn't mean what he was saying.

"We are very close to the Warners. We've been very active in his charity. He has been active in mine. We have a great relationship."

The Fitzgerald brothers -- as documented ad nauseum during the Super Bowl -- are the sons of a long-time sportswriter, making it odd that either would misuse the media. Twitter is not your conventional outlet, though, causing leagues to regulate its players' use of the site.

According to a story Sunday by ESPN's Marc Stein, the NBA will unveil its social media guidelines, which are not expected to be as stringent as those enforced by the NFL.

The four-team UFL, for its part, will start its season October 8, when the Redwoods -- guided by Larry Fitzgerald's former coach Dennis Green -- take on the Las Vegas Locomotives in Las Vegas.
