Two types of inmates end up in protective custody: those who have grown tired of getting the crap kicked out of them in the general population, and the relatively famous.* Plaxico Burress certainly qualifies as the latter, although it may have been just a matter of time on the former.

In any event, Plax, who spent his first night as a convict at Rikers Island, was later moved to the medium-security Ulster Correctional Facility in Napanoch, N.Y. And now he's on the move again, this time to his permanent home for the remainder of his sentence: the Oneida Correctional Facility in Rome, NY.

Via TMZ:
We're told Plaxico -- who was sentenced to two years in prison last week -- will be separated from the general population and staying in the long-term protective custody unit.

We're told there are only 18 inmates currently staying in Plax's section of the prison -- which can hold up to 43 at a time.
If nothing else, this should allow Plax plenty of time for introspection. And who knows, maybe he'll start a blog.

* I can speak with authority on the subject because I saw it on the National Geographic channel.
