It's another session of "Sink or Swim" Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekly look at the underachievers still lurking on many fantasy rosters. You've got the tough choices to make and we help you decide which direction to take. Do you cut the bait or give 'em one more chance to swim?We all had our favorite sleepers heading into the season. Happens every single year and you're doing something wrong if you don't take a flier on a sleeper or have your eyes locked in on a few. However, the hard part always comes a few weeks into the season when roster space starts evaporating due to the waiver-wire wonders. When is it time to give up already and admit you were wrong on your so-called sleeper?
I wish it was an easy answer, but unfortunately it's not. And so today, we ponder the fates of Josh Morgan, James Davis and Chris Henry. All of whom caught our eye as potential sleepers that have yet to pay off.
Josh Morgan (WR, 49ers) -- Let's be fair here, things haven't exactly gone Morgan's way in the early going of the season. Remember how many thought the 49ers under the direction of Shaun Hill would be a much better offense? Well, the reality is they actually are a better offense. It's just that they're focused on running the ball and passing with a conservative efficiency. This hasn't exactly done wonders for Morgan, who has a total of seven catches on the season and was blanked in Week 2.
The advice here is that you can't hold him with a roster spot at this time. Especially if there are -- and there probably is -- better options on the waiver wire. However, if you're stacked and aren't begging for an open roster space then feel free to cling on for a while. With Frank Gore absent, perhaps the 49ers will be forced to pass it downfield a bit more. Then again, it seems the passing option that Shaun Hill has become most fond of is Vernon Davis. Keep Morgan on the radar as he does have the talent and somewhere down the road he could be of assistance. Just not in the present tense.
James Davis (RB, Browns) -- Raise your hand if you predicted Jamal Lewis would be either injured or replaced by Week 3. Wow, that many of you? I'm glad I wasn't alone. One problem, I bought the hype that James Davis would be the guy who stepped into the featured role. Um, looks like we were all wrong on that one. It was Jerome Harrison who got the gig and the touches filling in for an injured Jamal Lewis. And we've also seen Davis not only struggle, but admit the game speed is much different from preseason to regular season. That said, you can feel free to dump him if you absolutely have to do just that. However, you'd be wise to keep an eye on the situation in Cleveland. Granted it's an awful team, but they've gone ahead and made the QB change, so who knows what's next. And face it, Harrison didn't exactly light up the skies last weekend in his first showcase. My guess is that at some point this season the Browns decide it's time to see what Davis can really do. It might be worth your time as well to see what he can do with 20+ carries in a game. Just saying.
Chris Henry (WR, Bengals) -- The expectations here were certainly more timid than most. Not everyone was quite ready to back camp Henry until his blistering preseason showing when he scored in every game. Well without stating the painfully obvious, you can cut him. He's got a mere three catches on the season. Sure, one of them was a TD, but he's just one of many talented receivers in Cincinnati and he's just not on the field enough. Plus, the Bengals are focused on establishing the run and keeping Carson Palmer in modest passing situations.
Eventually the Bengals are going to open it up for Palmer, but I have a gut feeling that love is going the way of Chad Ochocinco. No reason to hold on to Henry at this point in the season. You know where to find him if you get desperate or he piques your interest later this year. Yup, the waiver wire -- where he belongs.
