Former undisputed middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins will fight hard-punching Enrigue Ornelas on Dec. 2 at the Liacorous Center on the campus of Temple University in his hometown of Philadelphia. The 12-round light heavyweight matchup for Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 knockouts) precedes an agreed-upon rematch with Florida's multi-champion Roy Jones (54-5, 40 KOs) that is slated for perhaps late January or early February, assuming Jones gets through his cruiserweight bout on the same night against Austrailia's Danny Green (27-3, 24 KOs).
Hopkins will hold a press conference at The Liacouras Center on Oct. 14 announcing his fight with Ornelas, which is being dubbed "The Broad Street Brawl," and which will be carried live beginning at 8 p.m. on the Versus network.
Jones will turn 41 on Jan. 16 -- one day after the 45th birthday of Hopkins, whom he defeated by unanimous decision in May 1993.
Ornelas, 29, has a record of 29-5 with 19 knockouts, but has lost three of his last seven bouts and has been stopped once.
Hopkins has not been in the ring since Oct. 18, when he beat world champion Kelly Pavlik via unanimous decision to rebound from an April 2008 loss to unbeaten Joe Calzaghe.
It will be Hopkins' first time fighting in Philadelphia since March of 2003, when he knocked out Morrade Hakkar in eight rounds at The Spectrum.
Since losing to Calzaghe in November 2008, Jones has knocked out Omar Sheika and Jeff Lacey in his last two fights.
