MLB Eyeing Sunday Afternoon Makeup If Game 2 of ALCS Rained Out

Yankee Stadium coldNEW YORK -- With weather forecasts for Saturday's Game 2 of the ALCS in New York dicey (chance of rain 90 percent, rainfall near a half an inch), the leading contingency plan calls for a makeup game Sunday at 4:30 PM.

That would wipe out the travel day in the ALCS but allow the Yankees and Angels enough time to get to California for the scheduled 1:13 PM PT start Monday.

The only issue would be for FOX, which carries the ALCS and the NFL. If Game 2 is played Sunday afternoon, FOX would show its late NFL games (Arizona at Seattle and Philadelphia at Oakland) in those four local markets, with the ALCS on FX.

Under that schedule -- as long as Friday's Game 1 is played, which it seems like it will since there was no precipitation 30 minutes before game time -- the Yankees could still bring back Game 1 starter CC Sabathia in Game 4 on short rest. Games 3-5 would still be scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. But Game 2 starter A.J. Burnett would have to go on short rest in Game 5, which was not the case in the original schedule.
