Nicaraguan Card Honors Former Champ Alexis Arguello

Luis PerezAfter 13 months of inactivity, 31-year-old former two-time IBF world champion, Luis Perez, will return to the ring against Sergio Gomez on Saturday night in both fighters' native Managua, Nicaragua,.

Coming off of two straight losses and boasting a record of 25-3 with 16 knockouts, Perez will see action for the first time against Gomez (13-5, nine KOs) since Sept. 18.

In his last bout, Perez was unsuccessful in his bid to become a titlist in a third weight class when he lost a 12-round, WBA, super bantamweight (122 pounds) unanimous decision to Panamanian Ricardo Cordoba.

Perez-Gomez will be the main event of a 13-bout fight card set up by Nicaraguan promotional company PRODESA in posthumous honor of former world champion and Hall of Famer, Alexis Arguello.

The all-Nicaraguan card will also feature superbantamweight Alvaro Perez (18-1-1, 12 KOs) against Jose Antonio Elizabeth (12-3, five), super flyweight (115) Evert Briceno (30-5-1, 25 KOs) against Ernesto Castro (10-9-2, eight KOs), and flyweight (108) Yader Escobar (20-2, 14 KOs) opposite Marlon Chavarria (8-5-1, four KOs).

The highly-regarded Escobar already is in a weight class featuring two Nicaraguan world champions in that same weight class with WBA titlist Roman Gonzalez (24-0, 20 KOs) and interim WBC king Juan Palacios (26-2, 21 KOs).

The fight card will be transmitted free of cost thru the internet at the following address: www.prodesa.com.ni. The web cast is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM Nicaraguan time.
