The University of Connecticut is mourning the loss of a football player. Cornerback Jasper Howard (shown above making a tackle in a 2008 game), a starter for the Huskies, was killed Sunday morning in a stabbing that took place on campus.
According to the Hartford Courant, Howard, 20, was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Huskies coach Randy Edsall was at the hospital overnight.
The newspaper says the assailant is still at large, and UConn students have been made aware of the incident.
In Saturday's 38-25 homecoming win over Louisville, Howard started, had a hand in 11 tackles and forced a fumble.
