David Booth played a pretty strong game for the Florida Panthers on Friday night, using his speed to create a number of scoring chances and record eight shots on goal in a 3-2 shootout loss to Pittsburgh Penguins,

Midway through the third period, Booth committed what can only be described as a mental mistake when he lost his stick in the defensive zone and decided to pick up a loose puck and throw it down the ice. That, of course, is a penalty. But, don't feel too bad, David, because you're not the first guy to attempt it, and your gaffe isn't even the worst.

Videos after the jump.

First, we have Booth's play in Friday's game.

That's just simply a mental mistake, and he didn't even try to hide it. He just casually picked it up and tossed it out of the zone. As I mentioned above, Booth isn't the first, and likely won't be the last, player to ever be guilty of this, and his isn't even the most embarrassing.

First, we have Alexander Semin of the Washington Capitals and his attempt at a behind-the-back toss into the net against the Toronto Maple Leafs a couple of years back, resulting in him hilariously hitting the post.

Both of these, of course, fight for second-place behind the greatest puck toss of all time: long-time defenseman Marc Bergevin grabbing a puck out of mid-air and accidentally throwing it into his own net during a playoff game in 2000.
