Washington Redskins' Chris Cooley May Miss Just 4 Weeks

Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley was initially thought to be out for the season after he was carted off the field during Monday night's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. But now the Redskins appear to have something that has been sorely missing this season: Good news.

Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted Tuesday (via PFT) that a foot specialist said Cooley's fractured ankle is not as bad as initially thought, and that he may play again in just four weeks. So the Redskins could have one of their top players back around Thanksgiving.

Of course, the Redskins are 2-5 after going through one of the easiest early schedules in NFL history, and considering how much harder their schedule is over their final nine games, they likely will be eliminated from playoff contention by Thanksgiving. That raises the question of whether they ought to just put Cooley on injured reserve anyway, rather than have him rush back to play out the string.

Still, the mere thought that Cooley could play again this year is a tiny thing for Redskins fans to be happy about. There's not much else to choose from.
