Dwayne Bowe has been suspended four games by the NFL for violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances, according to the Kansas City Star's Kent Babb. The suspension was announced by NFL spokesperson Corry Rush and then confirmed by the Chiefs, although they have yet (and may not) comment further on the matter.
Adam Schefter is reporting on Twitter (although the "Whoa" response is my favorite) that Bowe's suspension is a result of a diuretic used to lose weight. Bowe reported to camp approximately 30 pounds heavier than he should have, and that he and the Chiefs learned about the suspension a month ago, but decided not to appeal it.
This also explains why the Chiefs claimed Chris Chambers off of waivers. What it does not do -- in all likelihood -- is ease the nerves of Chiefs fans who just went through a rough ordeal with former running back Larry Johnson.
Fantasy Spin: Pick up Chambers. Like, quickly. Even though the Chiefs aren't that high-powered, he's the No. 1 option now. Bowe becomes a nice target in trades because he'll miss four games, but he'll be back just in time for the fantasy playoffs. If an owner is fringe on making the postseason, they might be willing to part with Bowe cheaply. Matt Cassel's fantasy value takes a huge hit, naturally.
