It's no secret that kicker is the most fickle and unpredictable position in fantasy sports. Even the most seemingly sure-fire starters can throw up a terrible stat-line due to exterior variables (like Nick Folk last week, though he did miss a field goal). Still, we have to plow forward and the best we can do is judge the stats in front of us or hope to find a high-scoring affair. In Week 12, we have a doozy of a Monday Night Football game with serious shootout potential. So we'll roll with those two kickers atop the rankings.
1. Stephen Gostkowski, NE at NO
2. John Carney, NO vs. NE
3. Mason Crosby, GB at DET
4. Nick Folk, DAL vs. OAK
5. Nate Kaeding, SD vs. KC
6. Lawrence Tynes, NYG at DEN
7. Dan Carpenter, MIA at BUF
8. Ryan Longwell, MIN at CHI
9. David Akers, PHI vs. WAS
10. Robbie Gould, CHI vs. MIN
11. Rob Bironas, TEN vs. ARI
12. Neil Rackers, ARI at TEN
13. Josh Scobee, JAX at SF
14. Shayne Graham, CIN vs. CLE
15. Kris Brown, HOU vs. IND
16. Olindo Mare, SEA at StL
17. Billy Cundiff, BAL vs. PIT
18. Matt Stover, IND at HOU
19. Jeff Reed, PIT at BAL
20. Joe Nedney, SF vs. JAX
(Note: Rankings amended at 10:56 PM, Wednesday night)
- I do like Folk as a bounce-back candidate on Thanksgiving. Only two teams have allowed more field goals than the Raiders and the Cowboys should be able to run the football all over them.
- Brown has missed possible game-tying field goals in consecutive weeks. Assuming he retains this job this week, he should get a few more chances against a Colts team that has allowed 20 field goals this season.
- Both Scobee and Nedney represent solid sleeper-type plays against each other this week. The Jags and Niners have both allowed a large amount of kicking points. This looks like a close game in the mid-20s with several field goals each.
- The Hail Mary play of the week is Rian Lindell. The Bills had to settle for field goals a few times last week, but did show signs of some life on offense (though not a ton). Their opponent, Miami, has allowed more field goals than anyone else in the NFL, too.
- Finally, you won't find Falcons kicker Jason Elam on this list because Atlanta is openly seeking a new kicker.
