We're trying something different to replace the old Newsmakers in the NHL posts. Hopefully you'll like it. Each weekday we'll take a look at one positive performance from the previous night (a plus), and one negative performance from the previous night (a minus). It's the plus/minus.Tell us what you think at nhlfanhouse@gmail.com.Plus Of The Day: Marc-Andre Bergeron, Montreal Canadiens
Montreal picked up Marc-Andre Bergeron off the NHL's scrap heap earlier this season to help fill in for the injured Andrei Markov, who has been out of the lineup since the season opener. On Tuesday, during the Canadiens' 5-3 win against Columbus, the veteran rearguard had quite an impact, netting two goals, recording eight shots on goal, blocking two shots and finishing as a plus-three, helping Montreal win for the fourth time in six games. Since joining the Montreal lineup on October 20, he's scored five goals (to go with four assists) in 17 games.
Elsewhere for the Canadiens, goaltender Carey Price is playing some of the best hockey of his career and stopped 33 of 36 shots in the win. In his past six starts, the 22-year-old goaltender has posted a 4-2 record to go with a .938 save percentage. That's quite a turnaround from when he was having his lackluster performances from earlier this season called out on Twitter.
Minus Of The Day: Mathieu Garon, Columbus Blue Jackets
After Steve Mason gave up four goals on 18 shots on Monday, Mathieu Garon earned the start in Montreal and didn't fare much better, surrendering five goals on 29 shots, completing a rough two-game stretch for the Jackets that saw them get outscored 12-7.
They end their five-game road trip on Thursday in Ottawa, looking to salvage the trip after winning just one of the first four games.
Highlight Of The Day: Everybody knows Rick Nash can score goals with the best of them, and on Tuesday night he showed that he can set them up as well with this behind-the-back assist on Antoine Vermette's first period tally.
