Favre, Vikings Embarrass Bears in Rout

Brett FavreThe Chicago Bears entered the season thinking they could compete with the Minnesota Vikings for the division title. Apparently, they were delusional. After a 36-10 Vikings thrashing of the Bears in the Metrodome, the teams are now separated by six games -- after playing just 11 total.

As opposed to many weeks this year, where one side of the ball played well for Chicago, nearly everybody was bad on Sunday. Jay Cutler threw two more interceptions. Matt Forte ran for just 27 yards on eight carries. The offensive line was schooled all day as a whole, but Orlando Pace was particularly decimated by Jared Allen. Lovie Smith wasted a challenge on a clear fumble in the first half. Receivers dropped passes, defenders missed tackles and blew coverages. The Bears' defensive line, again, was repeatedly lined up offsides (seriously, is this Pop Warner?).

It was just a heap of ineptitude in nearly all facets. But we can't just move along without giving the Vikings credit.

Brett Favre was once again dazzling. He's playing better than he's ever played before in his career and it's not even close. His career-high passer rating was previously 99.5 in 1995. After shredding the Bears for 392 yards and three touchdowns, it's climbing close to 120 in 2009. He's thrown 24 TDs on the season compared to just three interceptions. In fact, it's pretty ridiculous that anyone else is even being mentioned in the MVP discussions at this point. How many games would the Vikings have won with Tarvaris Jackson at the helm? Six? Maybe seven. But these Vikes are 10-1 and don't appear to have a glaring weakness. Favre is your MVP by a wide margin, though he's getting plenty of help.

Percy Harvin is growing as a player and Sidney Rice is a legitimate go-to receiver. Visanthe Shiancoe is a phenomenal red zone target. We know about Adrian Peterson, but Chester Taylor is playing exceptionally well. They have the best defensive line in football and the offensive line is no slouch either. They are a machine and are steam-rolling opposition. It's hard to see them losing another game, though next week in Arizona won't come easy, so they'll be scoreboard watching Saints games in hopes the road to the Super Bowl runs through Minnesota.

Of course, the Bears made it easy on the Vikings Sunday. The way things are going, it's hard to see them winning more than six games (they get the Rams next week and the Lions in Week 17 -- and we can't even say those are gimmes at this point). They have now lost four straight games and are not improving. Simply put: this is a bad football team that is going nowhere for a while.
