Jon Beason was arrested Monday on an aggravated assault charge stemming from a Nov. 15 incident, according to WCNC in Charlotte. The Panthers' star linebacker was later released without bond on a "written promise to appear" in court later.Beason was allegedly involved in an altercation with a man named Gregory C. Frye at Uptown Cabaret, an, ahem, gentleman's club in Charlotte, following the Panthers' Week 10 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
A NewsChannel 36 source says that Beason punched a man during a confrontation. The victim allegedly suffered injuries to his eye socket and nose, which required medical attention and may require reconstructive surgery. The fact that Beason was essentially released on his own recognizance, and that the alleged incident occurred almost two weeks ago but Beason was not brought into custody until now, would seemingly make Frye's case much less credible. Frye has a "history of legal troubles," according to WCNC.
"Jon is adamant that he had nothing to do with the assault and he will plead non-guilty," said Laughrun. "He looks forward to his day in court and to getting his good name cleared."
WCNC did report that a copy of Beason's arrest warrant stated he "did unlawfully and willfully commit an assault and battery" on Frye "by punching the victim in the face with his fist, inflicting serious injuries."
Of course, this all went down in a popular (so I hear anyway) strip club located right between downtown Charlotte and Bank of America Stadium (as I hear, again), so, really, there are bound to be some fairly sketchy details surrounding the whole incident.
