Jay Cutler Takes Out Frustration on Microphone Stand

A year ago, Bears fans were lamenting the fact that the team didn't have a franchise quarterback. It's been a familiar refrain for some two decades, so last spring, the front office traded for Jay Cutler. Problem solved. Except that the 2009 season has been a disaster and it all starts with the guy under center.

The Bears lost to the Vikings Sunday to fall to 4-7. Thirteen weeks into last season, with Kyle Orton as the starter, the Bears were 6-5 on their way to a 9-7 finish.

There's no way the '09 team wins out to match that mark. Not with Cutler already having 20 interceptions and making throws like he's Rex Grossman playing left-handed. And the pressure seems to be getting to him. During his post-game press conference Sunday, Cutler made his way to the microphone stand and ... shoved it.

It's one thing to shove a cameraman, or a reporter, but Cutler shoved a mic stand. And then he answered questions for several minutes like nothing happened.

SBNation's Eamonn Brennan has a theory: "The most probable conclusion? Cutler was trying to seem angry to placate a Chicago media corp that hangs on his every gesture. Either way: fail."

On the upside, the Bears defeated the defending Super Bowl Champion Steelers earlier this year. Using the transitive property that means ... well, that means the Bears are still awful. The Steelers can't even beat the Chiefs.
