The NFL Network found itself scrambling to apologize late Thanksgiving night after accidentally airing an profanity-laced pep talk Broncos coach Josh McDaniels gave to his team during Denver's win over the Giants.Tuesday, McDaniels offered his own apology for the incident.
"I certainly didn't intend for that to come across in that fashion," McDaniels said. "I hope that never happens again. I'll try my best to make sure it doesn't, from my end."
Apology accepted, I guess, but far from necessary.
I understand the NFL Network's need to say sorry -- I'm sure there were lots of families enjoying the Denver-New York game on Thanksgiving night, and McDaniels' very clear expletive probably didn't make a lot of parents happy. That's the chance you take when you air a coach's sideline rant in-game.
As for McDaniels, it's hard to chastise him too much. I'm sure the last thing he was thinking about while trying to inspire his players -- during a huge, huge game for Denver, by the way -- was about offending the NFL Network's viewing audience. I can't imagine it's the first time McDaniels has let some profanity slip during a game, and I'm quite certain it won't be the last.
Still, it's commendable that McDaniels stepped up and took the blame anyway.
"Anyone that was offended by that, young or old, that's not the example I want to set or we want to set here with the Broncos organization," McDaniels said.
