Danny Green Beats Roy Jones, First-Round TKO Loss for a Legend

Roy Jones Jr. suffered an embarrassing first-round technical knockout loss to Australia's Danny Green Wednesday in Sydney, ending any hopes of a pay-per-view fight with Bernard Hopkins in 2010, and perhaps ending Jones' career.

Jones was once the best boxer in the world, but at age 40 he's nothing like the fighter he once was.

"We don't make excuses, it was a great performance by Danny," Jones said.

The plan was for both Jones and Hopkins (who fights on Wednesday night) to win their fights and then fight each other in a long-awaited rematch some time next year. Now it's hard to see how there's any kind of audience for a Jones-Hopkins fight. For that matter, it's hard to see why Jones, whose record falls to 54-6, would keep boxing.

Said Green, "He's one of the greatest fighters of all time and the opportunity to fight him in Australia, thanks, Roy Jones Jr."

The 36-year-old Green improved to 28-3.
