Do you have some bench space to spare on your potential fantasy football championship squad? If so, don't wait until after this coming week's games to act. Let the ones scrambling for the final playoff spot with a bunch of also-rans watch and see what happens. Your team full of studs will need some depth to combat possible injuries and/or benchings due to clinchings (like when the Colts sit everyone in Week 16). Here's a positional guide of possible waiver adds with your eyes on Weeks 14, 15, or 16 (or all of the above) with a short explanation as to why. We only used players who were owned in less than 70 percent of FanHouse leagues.
Quarterbacks
Matt Leinart - If Kurt Warner's injury lingers, Leinart is good enough to have a field day -- with the Cardinals' weapons -- against the shoddy pass defenses of the Niners, Lions and Rams.
Alex Smith - With the Niners becoming more reliant on the pass, now is the time to spring for Smith as insurance. San Fran faces the sub-par pass defenses of Arizona, Philly and Detroit in the fantasy playoffs.
Matthew Stafford - This is in Week 16 only (Peyton Manning owners?), as the Lions face the 49ers' 28th-ranked pass defense.
Vince Young - He can beat you with his arm or legs and Chris Johnson is taking a ton of pressure off the passing attack. Plus, the young receivers are developing. With the Rams in Week 14, Vince gets off to a good start. The Dolphins and Chargers won't be enough to make Young disappear either.
Running Backs
Mike Bell - I'm looking squarely at Week 16 here, when the Saints will be blowing out the Bucs. Bell is the closer in the second half in blowouts -- may I direct you to his 75 yards and two touchdowns against the Bucs in Week 11?
Ahmad Bradshaw - He'll be healthy by Weeks 15 and 16 and you can run on the Redskins and Panthers -- at least better than you can pass on them. Brandon Jacobs does not appear effective at all, so the Giants will be forced to perimeter running. Deeper Giants option: Danny Ware
Donald Brown - In Week 16, the Colts will probably enter having already wrapped up home field advantage throughout the playoffs -- so don't expect Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark or Joseph Addai to see much work. They are playing the Jets, who sport a sick pass defense. Deeper Colts option: Chad Simpson
Jamaal Charles - You'll need someone else to win the Super Bowl for you, when the Chiefs face the Bengals' stout run defense. Before that, though, Charles will help get you there, as the Chiefs face two pathetic run defenses in the Browns and Bills.
Shonn Greene - Here's a great add for the upcoming weeks. The Jets are planning on winning with a conservative offensive approach that uses lots of running plays and low-risk passing plays. I'd add him immediately, as they face off against the league's worst run defense in Week 13 and leaving him on the waivers chances someone else grabbing him after a possibly big game this weekend. What follows are the Bucs, Falcons and the likely-resting Colts. Even if Thomas Jones doesn't get hurt, Greene is liable to do some damage with his 10-15 weekly touches.
Larry Johnson - Cedric Benson is coming back, but there's always danger he falls injured again. In Weeks 15 (Chargers) and 16 (Chiefs), the Bengals face poor run defenses. Alternative Bengals option: Bernard Scott, assuming his toe is healed.
Felix Jones - The Cowboys face teams who are better against the pass than the run and will look to be saving the legs of Marion Barber as they head to the NFC East title. Deeper Cowboys option: Tashard Choice
Originally had Jamal Lewis here, but he's since gone on the injured reserve. Take a look at Jerome Harrison and Chris Jennings. Definitely stay away for Week 14 (Steelers), but after that the Browns play the Chiefs and Raiders. It's hard to imagine Harrison or Jennings taking you to a 2009 fantasy championship, but either could be a nice flex play. You could guess who gets the bigger workload now or attempt to wait until after this weekend's game.
Darren McFadden - I'm not doing it because he's screwed me over too many times. But the Raiders should look to see what they can get out of him down the stretch and they have a run-friendly schedule. Also consider Justin Fargas and Michael Bush here. Any of these Raiders, however, would be simply for depth in case of an injury.
Sammy Morris - Laurence Maroney should be owned in pretty much every league by now, but the Pats will mix it up at times. They face some two soft run defenses during the first two rounds of the fantasy playoffs (Carolina, Buffalo).
Jerious Norwood - With Michael Turner's status up in the air, it's the perfect time to grab Norwood. It's possible Turner comes back, but if not, Norwood has some tasty matchups. You can run on the Saints (Week 14) and the Bills (Week 16) are the worst run defense in the NFL. In Week 15, the Jets will pretty much stifle the Falcons' passing attack, so they'll be forced to run with all their backs. Deeper Falcons option: Jason Snelling.
Beanie Wells - After the Vikings shut him down this week, many will give up on the Cards' rookie. He likely won't find many running lanes against the Niners in Week 14, either, but check out the the last two games of the fantasy playoffs: Lions and Rams.
Wide Receivers
Donnie Avery - Having Kyle Boller under center is better for deep threats in the long-run than Marc Bulger. The Titans, Texans and Cardinals are teams against whom he could easily shake free.
Steve Breaston - Don't give up on him. The Niners, Lions and Rams suck against the pass.
Kenny Britt - He's scored touchdowns in consecutive weeks, but only owned in 14 percent of the fleaflicker leagues? What gives? As we said with Young, there are some decent matchups in the playoffs.
Mark Clayton - The Lions (Week 14) and Bears (Week 15) can't guard anyone. In Week 16, the Steelers look like a touch assignment, but Clayton just went for 129 yards on seven catches last Sunday night.
Austin Collie - See the note next to Brown above about the Colts. Then realize Darrelle Revis will probably spend much of his afternoon on the more physical Pierre Garcon. That means Jim Sorgi's best target will be Collie.
Michael Crabtree - The other games aren't great, but he's in line for a big Week 16 against the Lions. Deeper 49ers option: Josh Morgan
Malcom Floyd - The Chargers don't face incredibly easy pass defenses (Cowboys, Bengals and Titans), but those three teams are much, much better at stopping the run. Plus, I'm pretty sure Philip Rivers could throw on almost anyone. Deeper Chargers option: Legedu Naanee
Kevin Walter - The Texans face three sub-par defenses in the fantasy playoffs and they'd much rather be passing than running. Deeper Texans option: Jacoby Jones
Tight End
Bo Scaife - Pretty solid game last week as Vince Young re-discovered his passing abilities. You could also take a look at rookie tight end Jared Cook, who caught two passes for 29 yards -- including a big catch on Young's miracle drive.
Defenses
Jets - If you can, get them now. They have reinvented the offense, deciding to put all the pressure on the run game and defense. They have the horses to be a quality fantasy defense and will show it against the Bills this Thursday. Then they get the Bucs in Week 14, a banged up Atlanta offense in Week 15 and the likely-resting Colts in Week 16.
Packers - The Week 15 bout in Pittsburgh isn't good, but they visit Jay Cutler's Bears in Week 14 and host Seattle in Week 16.
Patriots - Carolina, Buffalo and Jacksonville on the slate.
Kickers
Don't worry about it now. You should never carry more than one kicker and will be able to spot-fill each week if you choose to do so.
