What a week for Florida Panthers defenseman Keith Ballard. After accidentally knocking his teammate, Tomas Vokoun, out of Monday's game with a two-handed baseball bat swing to the head, he was once again involved in the destruction of an NHL goaltender on Wednesday. With 42 seconds remaining in overtime, Ballard drove hard to the net and collided with Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson. The collision was quickly followed by Colorado defenseman Adam Foote jumping Ballard from behind and landing a series of jabs to the face.
Video of all the action after the jump.
Ballard was issued a two-minute minor for goaltender interference, while Foote was handed a double-minor for roughing.
Anderson left the game and was replaced by backup Peter Budaj, who faced zero shots in his 42 seconds of ice time. He did, however, take the loss in the shootout after giving up a goal to Stephen Weiss in the fifth round.
It was an incredible hockey game overall, as the Panthers nearly wasted a hat trick from Weiss, blowing a two-goal lead with 53 seconds to play in regulation after a pair of goals from Colorado's Matt Duchene and T.J. Galiardi.
Florida's next game is on Thursday in Washington, and if Capitals goalies Jose Theodore and Semyon Varlamov are smart, they'll start wrapping themselves in bubble wrap right now.
