Eight Michigan State football players have been suspended for violation of team rules after being named as suspects in a residence hall fight Nov. 22. The suspensions come just days after two players were dismissed from the team for their role in the brawl.Running back Glenn Winston and safety Roderick Jenrette were dismissed last week. Among those suspended were cornerback Chris L. Rucker, wide receiver Mark Dell, running back Ashton Leggett, and wide receiver B.J. Cunningham, all of whom were starters.
Winston had previously been suspended for attacking an MSU hockey player but was reinstated before the season started.
Head coach Mark Dantonio (pictured) did not comment on the suspensions.
Spartan head coach Mark Dantonio's decision to reinstate Winston has drawn much criticism. This post by Brian Cook at MGoBlog breaks down what Cook sees as a double standard involving Dantonio and Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez.
A Michigan State official told FanHouse that the length of the suspensions were "pending the outcome of the investigation" and said the university "can't speculate on bowl participation right now."
