NFL Picks, Week 13: Weather Won't Be Frightful for Saints

Drew Brees / Sean PaytonWhile we speculate whether New Orleans and Indianapolis can finish unbeaten, we might speculate on something else: what the Saints can do in weather? I mean real weather, not piped in 72-degree windless dome weather.

The answer: probably win.

The weather in question this week is in Washington, where the biggest problem for New Orleans is likely to be less what figures to be the slightly chilly (47 degrees or so) climate than a letdown from their latest "Game of the Century,'' the Monday night 38-17 demolition of New England. Despite its 3-8 record, Washington can be dangerous because it plays defense pretty well.

But the Saints have reached the stage where it seems to matter little where they play -- they are 9 1/2 point favorites in this one. Granted, they were tested outdoors in Miami and the best team they played in weather, Philadelphia, was hindered by the absence of Donovan McNabb.

Jason Campbell is not McNabb, to whom he lost in Philly last week. Nor is he Tom Brady, who was harried by Charles Grant and Will Smith last week. So given Washington's injury situation and general offensive malaise, weather is unlikely to bother New Orleans too much.

Saints at Redskins

Team Pointspread Projected Score
New Orleans Saints
- 9 1/2 27
Washington Redskins 16

Imagine the hype this game would be getting if the season had started when Vince Young's season started: two unbeaten teams. Peyton vs. Vince. Chris Johnson vs. ... Joseph Addai.

The Colts have come much closer than the Saints to the abyss -- if one loss is considered an abyss. They've trailed in the fourth quarter of their last five wins. Will they trail after the fourth quarter as Tennessee gets its sixth?

Titans at Colts

Team Pointspread Projected Score
Tennessee Titans 30
Indianapolis Colts - 7 31

The line keeps going up on this one as the Giants keep going down -- second-year man Jonathan Goff is the new middle linebacker and we're not sure who might be the running backs behind the stumbling Brandon Jacobs.

But Tom Coughlin's teams are pretty good at not surrendering easily.

Cowboys at Giants

Team Pointspread Projected Score
Dallas Cowboys - 3 31
New York Giants 27
Other than Ray Rice, the Ravens have a lot of disappointing players.

Ravens at Packers (Monday)

Team Pointspread Projected Score
Baltimore Ravens - 6 13
Green Bay Packers 20
The no line is because when it was made, there were questions about Kurt Warner's availability. Warner-Favre would be fun if it happens.

Vikings at Cardinals

Team Pointspread Projected Score
Minnesota Vikings No Line 27
Arizona Cardinals 10
No line because of Big Ben

Raiders at Steelers

Team Pointspread Projected Score
Oakland Raiders No Line 5
Pittsburgh Steelers 18

Team Pointspread Projected Score
New York Jets - 3 17
Buffalo Bills 19
