After weeks of anticipation, the Chicago Blackhawks have locked up three major parts of their core to long-term contract extensions.
The team announced Thursday that Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith have signed long-term extensions.
According to the initial reports, forwards Toews and Kane will ink five-year pacts, while Keith, a defenseman, will sign a 13-year mega-deal that will keep him Chicago until he is 39 years old.
Darren Dreger reports, via Twitter, that the deals for Kane and Toews will have an average salary of $6.3 million per season, with Keith's deal will average $5.54 million.
Needless to say, that's quite a bit of scratch. The next step now for the Blackhawks will be figuring out who to trade to fit these deals under the salary cap for the future.
Keith's deal represents the second contract longer than 10 years that Chicago has handed out in the past five months, as it signed Marian Hossa to a 12-year contract on the first day of free agency.
