A dream matchup with England that should captivate fans on both sides of the Atlantic highlighted a very promising World Cup draw for the U.S. national team on Friday afternoon. Algeria and Slovenia are other two opponents, and at first glance, it appears to be a group from which the U.S. has a decent chance of advancing.

A quick look at the Americans' three Group C opponents follows:

ENGLAND

June 12 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.

All-time series: England 7-2-0.
World Cup meetings: U.S. 1, England 0 in 1950.
Last meeting: England 2, U.S. 0 in London on May 28, 2008.
Last U.S. win: 2-0 in Chicago on June 9, 1993.
Qualifying: England won its European group with a 9-1-0 record.
Ranking: England currently is 9th in the world.

SLOVENIA

June 18 at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg.

All-time series: Never played.
Qualifying: Slovenia was runner-up to Slovakia in its group with a 6-2-2 record. It then upset Russia in their two-game playoff, winning on away goals after a 2-1 away loss and a 1-0 home win.
Ranking: Slovenia currently is 33rd in the world.

ALGERIA

June 23 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

All-time series: Never played.
Qualifying: Algeria finished tied for first in its group with a 4-1-1 record, then defeated Egypt, 1-0, in a playoff.
Ranking: Algeria currently is 28th in the world.

Incredibly, Slovenia and Algeria are the only two countries in the draw that the U.S. has never played. They will face both in South Africa.

If the Americans advance out of Group C, they will be matched up in the round of 16 with a survivor from Group D, which features Germany, Australia, Ghana and Serbia.
