Dezmon BriscoeCollege players have until Jan. 15 to declare for the 2010 NFL draft. Kansas wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe decided to take care of business a lot earlier.

Briscoe announced Friday that he would not return for his senior season at Kansas and will enter his name in the NFL draft, according to J. Brady McCollough of the Kansas City Star. Briscoe is the Jayhawks' all-time leading receiver at 3,240 yards, a number that's good for fourth-best in Big 12 history.

"I feel like I'm blessed," Briscoe told the Star. "I made it through three seasons injury-free."

Briscoe's departure will be another blow for a Kansas team that already has to replace running back Jake Sharp, quarterback Todd Reesing and wide receiver Kerry Meier, all graduating seniors, not to mention head coach Mark Mangino, who resigned under fire earlier this week.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Briscoe made 84 catches for 1,337 yards and nine touchdowns this season for 5-7 Kansas. That came on the heels of a sophomore campaign where Briscoe hauled in 92 grabs for 1,407 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Those numbers were inflated, of course, by Kansas' wide-open offense, something that NFL scouts will certainly take notice of. They'll also harp on Briscoe's average time in the 40-yard dash -- Briscoe said that 4.54 is his best mark thus far.

Popular draft preview website WalterFootball.com ranks Briscoe as the No. 15 wide receiver available in the 2010 draft, though several of the players ranked in front of him (Golden Tate, Damian Williams, Arrelious Benn) have yet to declare for the draft. NFLDraftScout.com spots Briscoe as the No. 7 receiver in the class of 2011, and he figures to land somewhere between No. 10 and No. 20 when he's moved into the 2010 rankings.
