Lane Kiffin, college football's Joe Biden, has struck again. Invited to be the guest analyst on ESPN's College GameDay, Tennessee coach Lane 'Hatfield' Kiffin chose Alabama over Urban 'McCoy' Meyer's Florida Gators in Saturday's SEC Championship Game. Everyone on the program outside of Kirk Herbstreit chose the 'Tide, actually, but Kiffin managed to insert another dig at Meyer that might add a little fuel to their amusing feud.Asked who he thought had the coaching edge, he told Chris Fowler "that's a setup question, right?" before pausing and shedding any notion of diplomacy in answering that, why yes, Alabama coach Nick Saban has the coaching edge. Kiffin then went on to say something about Alabama being less penalized than the Gators, but the damage has been done. Count on another sit-down with SEC Commissioner Mike Slive in the near future to patch things up.
Meyer, for his part, will probably ignore this, although all bets are off if the Gators lose. It's amusing to watch this feud escalate from absolutely nothing; it's not like there was a head-to-head matchup from which to inspire the ill will. What we have here is a good old clash of personalities, with Kiffin relishing (or at least not shunning) the instigator role.
For his part, Meyer takes himself a touch too seriously and can't help but engage in this. Good times.
