Michael VickATLANTA -- You couldn't have scripted this any better if you were writing for the big screen.

Michael Vick spent 19 months in jail before catching on in Philadelphia this season. But Vick had done very little as an Eagle -- with just nine pass attempts and 15 carries heading into Sunday. However, on his first trip back to Atlanta to play against his former team, Vick saw a major increase in game action.

He responded to those extra snaps, too, rushing for a 5-yard touchdown in the third quarter, then throwing a 5-yard TD pass to Brent Celek in the fourth.

"It couldn't have happened at a better time,'' Vick said. "I want to become one of the top quarterbacks in this league again.''

On his first carry of the game, Vick was greeted by many more boos than cheers from the Falcons' home crowd. He touched the ball twice on Philadelphia's first drive with similar jeers from the crowd each time.

Things were different when Vick carried the ball again on the Eagles' first drive of the second half. He entered the game with Philadelphia inside the red zone, and playing quarterback in a shotgun formation, carried the ball up the middle for a touchdown. It was Vick's first touchdown of the season, and his first rushing touchdown since Week 6 of the 2006 season.

The response from the crowd was elation. Maybe it was the Eagles fans who were here at the Georgia Dome in force Sunday. Or it might just be a little dejection from the Atlanta faithful, too, as this crowd had been shell-shocked all afternoon with poor play from the home team. Whatever the reason, for the first time, Vick heard more cheers than boos -- if only we could have heard the reaction from Falcons owner Arthur Blank.

"I'll never forget this day. I'll never forget coming back to the city of Atlanta," said Vick.

The crowd gave Vick another hand when he found Celek in the end zone later in the game. Prior to that TD strike, Vick's last NFL touchdown pass had come in Week 17 of 2006 -- against Philadelphia.

"You knew when Vick came back to Atlanta," Falcons running back Jerious Norwood said, "he was going to be on fire."
