Florida associate head coach and defensive coordinator Charlie Strong finalized his agreement to become Louisville's next head coach and will be introduced at a 4 PM ET news conference today, FanHouse has learned.

Strong and Louisville officials finalized terms this morning in Gainesville, Fla., said a source with knowledge of Strong's decision.

As required by state law, Strong's hiring must be approved by the school's Personnel Committee of the Athletic Association Board of Directors today at 3:30 PM, which is simply a formality.

Strong, 49, has been given the option of coaching with the Gators for the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl, but it's unknown if Strong will coach in the game.

Strong will become only the third African-American head coach among the 66 Bowl Championship Series member schools and only the 11th minority head coach among the 120 Football Bowl Subdivision schools.

Strong is a three-time finalist for the Frank Broyles Award, honoring the nation's top assistant. Strong has been a finalist the past two seasons and also in 2000, when he was defensive coordinator at South Carolina.
