Randy HansonRandy Hanson, the Oakland Raiders assistant coach who accused head coach Tom Cable of assaulting him and fracturing his jaw during a training camp altercation last August, is back with the team in an active role, this time in the personnel department.

Hanson, 41, has accepted one of the three options Raiders owner Al Davis offered him following the Aug. 5 coaches-only meeting at training camp in Napa, Calif., that erupted in a violent argument: Hanson was told he could move to the personnel side; accept a job as a quality control coach without interacting with players; or be paid the balance of his contract (which runs through 2010) and leave the organization.

Hanson emerged from that meeting with Cable and the rest of the defensive staff with a jaw fracture, and has remained on paid leave with the franchise. After a two-month investigation, Napa County district attorney Gary Lieberstein did not file criminal charges against Cable, but Hanson's attorney, John McGuinn, has said he and his client would pursue damages in civil court.

The status of a possible civil suit remains unknown. McGuinn did not immediately return a phone call to FanHouse, nor did Hanson.
