Thanks to a four-game losing streak -- with every loss coming against AFC South foes -- the Texans' once-promising playoff hopes are on life support. And Houston will have to figure out a way to save its season without the help of leading rusher Steve Slaton. Slaton, who sat out Week 13 with a right shoulder injury, will be placed on injured reserve, according to multiple reports Wednesday.
Slaton leads the Texans in carries (131), yards rushing (437) and is tied for the team lead in rushing touchdowns (3).
Houston was hopeful that Slaton would be able to play last week in a loss at Jacksonville, and Slaton told the team's website that he was essentially day-to-day.
"I don't really think it's that serious," Slaton said of his ailment.
ESPN's Paul Kuharsky reported that the Texans will promote Chris Henry from their practice squad to fill Slaton's roster spot. Henry will likely serve as the backup to both Chris Brown and Ryan Moats, who shared carries in Week 13 and figure to do so going forward.
The Texans are 5-7 and two games back of Jackonsville for the final wild-card spot in the AFC -- but with two losses to the Jags this season, Houston could be eliminated from playoff contention this weekend with a loss to Seattle and a Jacksonville win over Miami.
