Yankees Interested in Jason Bay?

Now that the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a contract with Mike Cameron it's pretty clear that Jason Bay will not be back in Beantown next season. He still could end up playing plenty of games in Fenway Park, however, as the word in the Boston Herald is that the Yankees have contacted Bay's agent Joe Urbon to let him know of the team's interest in the slugging left fielder.

The Mets, Angels and Mariners have been considered the front-runners to land the 31-year-old, but if the Yankees' interest is serious, it's safe to assume that Bay would be interested in them as well. It's important to point out, though, that even if they've expressed interest, the Yankees have not made a contract offer to Bay.

The Yankees just traded for Curtis Granderson to play center field last week, and there's been some question concerning what they were planning on doing in left field. Hideki Matsui agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Monday, but Johnny Damon is still a free agent and looking for a home.

The line of thinking in New York may be that if they can't land Bay, they can always just fall back on a two-year deal for Damon.
