Curses! Tortorella Swears He'll Find Answers for Woeful Rangers

NEW YORK -- Good thing MSG Network is wise enough to record John Tortorella's post-game press conferences instead of broadcasting them live.

Pressed, albeit not too intensely, by the New York media corps for his answers to the Rangers' dispassionate showing Wednesday night at home in a 2-1 loss to the rival Islanders, Tortorella went into David Mamet mode.

On the dirty, crease-crashing goal by Jon Sim to give the Islanders' a 1-0 lead in the first period, Tortorella called it, "Horses**t coverage. A flukey goal ... the kind we never get." He wasn't complaining about Sim's work, but damning the Rangers' lack of it.

On his team's effort, the head coach said, "The thing is, when we play like s**t like that, it is simply unacceptable. Something has to be done. Wish I could give you an answer."

Asked if he had any solutions for his team, now 14-16-3 and out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture after a blistering start to the season, Tortorella was just about done. "There has to be a f***in' explanation for it, but I can't give you one now."

Then the coach got up to leave, knocking his chair out of the way with more ferocity than most of his players threw hits in the game. MSG Network showed the highlights from Tortorella's post-game press conference, editing out the profanities.

If the Rangers do not make any changes or find any answers before playing the Islanders again on Thursday night at Nassau Coliseum, Tortorella has dug himself a bit of a hole. For the Rangers, the next 24 hours could be riveting.
