Reports that Floyd Mayweather is trying to scuttle his March 13 WBO title fight with champion Manny Pacquiao over issues with the 147-pound welterweight limit are false, Mayweather's adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, told FanHouse on Wednesday morning."It's a bunch a bull****. At no point was there any time that Floyd tried to make a deal with the fight being over 147, and you can quote me on that," said Ellerbe. "That's a bunch of bull****. We never ever had a discussion about anything above 147."
Ellerbe would not comment directly on other details regarding negotiations, although both fighters have agreed, in principal, with the weight, eight-ounce gloves, a 50-50 financial split, and, most recently, a random, Olympic-style drug test.
Only the site of the bout has yet to be determined, with the leading candidates being the MGM Grand and The Dallas Cowboys' Stadium, whose owner, Jerry Jones, has offered $25 million to host the bout.
The MGM Grand could generate $28 million in live-gate sales, offer 40,000 closed-circuit seats through MGM/Mirage properties, and charge $100 a head for a possible $4 million surplus -- a total worth of around $32 million -- The Los Angeles Times reported recently.
On Tuesday, a source close to negotiations told FanHouse the deal could be finalized as early as Thursday, adding, "I'm just not sure if it's going to be Dallas or the MGM."
The Atlanta Falcons' Georgia Dome also has apparently re-entered the picture as a host site, as well.
