If ESPN was planning on sending Bob Knight to Lexington to cover a Kentucky game as a broadcaster this season, they might need to hire Blackwater for security. On Thursday, Knight made the following comment about Kentucky coach John Calipari while speaking at an Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame fundraiser:
Commence Erin Calipari and Kentucky fans firing off comments about Knight's temper, boorish behavior and bad acts to players and secretaries in 3, 2 ..."We've gotten into this situation where integrity is really lacking and that's why I'm glad I'm not coaching," he said. "You see we've got a coach at Kentucky (John Calipari), who put two schools on probation and he's still coaching. I really don't understand that."
Of course, Kentucky fans (along with loyalists at UMass and Memphis) will also point out that the NCAA never accused John Calipari himself of the wrongdoing.
Either way, this is reminiscent of Joe Paterno's comment in 1978 about not wanting to leave college football "to the Barry Switzers and Jackie Sherrills of the world." The big difference is that Knight has done just that.
