Rockets, Von Wafer Prep for Take Two

Update: Wafer failed his physical.

Rockets fireplug Von Wafer had some tempestuous issues with coach Rick Adelman during the team's series against the Blazers last spring, ultimately resulting in Wafer entering free agency without an offer to stay in Houston.

Actually, Wafer ended his contract without an acceptable offer from any NBA team and made his way to the European version of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory: Greek power Olympiacos, the easy-spending franchise that took Josh Childress off Atlanta's hand and reportedly offered to do the same for Nate Robinson and Allen Iverson.

Wafer didn't enjoy his time in Greece, and earlier this month reached a dissolution agreement with the club. He had been linked to Memphis of late, but, like Iverson, Wafer has proven you can go home again: the guard will reportedly sign with the Rockets, according to Mark Berman of MyFox Houston.

Wafer's sole campaign in south Texas was certainly his most productive, with the guard ending the season with 1,200 minutes played. He served as a fairly prolific scorer off the bench for the Rockets, averaging almost 18 points per 36 minutes on slightly less than efficient shooting. Certainly, if the Rockets plan to play Wafer as an augmentation to the Kyle Lowry unit, Von can help.

The bigger question revolves around Tracy McGrady, who shares a position with Wafer and has tallied only 30 minutes in his four appearances this season. Adelman may be left choosing between McGrady (the former scoring champ) and Wafer (the Greek league outcast) off the bench, and his decision might hurt some feelings, if it goes the way I think it would.
