Every Friday, FanHouse sifts through the rubble and picks the best NHL fight, with the help of HockeyFights.com.While the NHL is on a two-day break from all league activities, we have a chance to look back at the best fights from a shortened week of hockey. We saw an impressive beatdown in St. Paul, but the week was highlighted by a battle of well-known fighters.
Beatdown of the Week: Ryan Stone vs. Clayton Stoner
Stoner is a young defenseman for the Wild, and he's obviously not the team's most popular fighter. That's Derek Boogaard. However, Stoner sure had a good night against Stone, dominating the fight pretty much from the start. Watch the video here.
Runner Up: Shea Weber vs. Ryan Kesler
Kesler is a great two-way player, and Weber is one of the top defensemen in the league. Neither of these guys are known for bare-knuckle prowess. When they clashed in Vancouver, they actually performed competently and produced a good bout. Watch it here.
Runner Up: Wake Belak vs. Brian McGrattan
Belak and McGrattan both have won their share of dances. In this fight, McGrattan used his size and reach to wear down Belak. After the fight ended with both guys on their feet but McGrattan a pretty solid winner, he saluted the home crowd in Calgary.
Fight of the Week: Brad May vs. Krys Barch
The Saturday matinee in Dallas between two rivals also happened to be a pretty good game. The Stars won it 4-3, and Barch hooked up with old foe May. Both guys were apparently in a hurry, as they started and finished by furiously throwing punches. Turned into a really good fight.
