Troy PolamaluIf there was any week that Pittsburgh could use Troy Polamalu, this is the week. Pittsburgh-Baltimore with the Steelers' relatively slim playoff hopes on the line.

But Polamalu's balky knee is apparently a slow healer. It looks like he will miss his tenth game of the season, which means Pittsburgh will be going with Tyrone Carter again at strong safety. Last week against the Packers Carter blew the coverage on Greg Jennings 83-yard touchdown catch, and somehow managed to let Ryan Grant run by untouched on his 24-yard touchdown run, even though he was left unblocked.

In other words, Pittsburgh will be lacking in pass coverage and run stuffing ability in the secondary. While Polamalu won't be ready to go, the Steelers are making a change in the secondary. Deshea Townsend will start at cornerback for William Gay -- who has been beaten repeatedly on short passes.

Townsend is no stranger to this role--he first got to start when the Steelers were unhappy with Chad Scott and Dewayne Washington's work at corner. Of course he's now well on the wrong side of 30, but apparently Pittsburgh doesn't feel comfortable starting rookie Joe Burnett. Burnett saw significant action last week against the Packers, but he didn't exactly wow anyone.
