Alex Brown's primary occupation is playing defensive end for the Chicago Bears. But Brown isn't just a football player. He's also a volleyball team owner.

Yes, Brown and his wife own a volleyball team in Puerto Rico called Indias de Mayagüez. And while everyone in Chicago is talking about whether Brown's coach on the Bears, Lovie Smith, deserves to be fired, Brown has already made the decision and fired the Indias de Mayagüez coach.

"We had to," Brown told the Chicago Tribune this week. "We've made the playoffs every year we have owned the team, and we have been in the semifinals the last two years. We want to get over that hump."

According to Brown, the team's production on the court hasn't matched its talent, and that's when you know a change at the top is needed.

"We believe we have a team that should be No. 1, but we're third," he said. "Just by talking to the general manager and the coach and some of the players, we saw the chemistry leaving.

"I just care about winning. We just felt like the best thing for us was to go in a different direction."

That's the way a lot of people are talking about Smith right now. We'll find out within the next couple of weeks if the Bears' ownership feels the same way about Smith that Brown felt about the coach of Indias de Mayagüez.
