As the Steelers head into the final week of the regular season, here's some milestones to look for in the season finale.• It would take a career-best 156 receiving yards to tie the Steelers receiving yards record of 1,398 (set by Yancy Thigpen in 1997), but Santonio Holmes is somewhat quietly having a Pro Bowl caliber season for the Steelers. Holmes is currently tied for third in the NFL in recieving yards (with 1,243). He's tied for the league lead with 21 catches of 20 yards or more. And he's also fifth in the league in first down receptions (with 62).
If Holmes' can't get the Steelers' single-season receiving record, he can move into the top three with 87 yards against the Dolphins. Teammate Hines Ward currently holds the third-best season in Steelers history with 1,329 yards in 2002. He won't catch that, but Ward needs only 57 yards on Sunday for the second-best season of his career, which is a pretty impressive feat for a 33-year-old. If Ward has any chance to make the Hall of Fame, his 2009 season will be a pretty significant factor in his case for enshrinement.
•Santonio Holmes' Pro Bowl caliber season may be flying under the radar, but Stefan Logan's work as a kick returner is the stealth bomber of Steelers' performances. Logan became the Steelers' single season kick return yardage record holder last week. More importantly his 26.6 yard average per return is the best by a Steelers' kick returner since Rod Woodson averaged 27.28 in 1989.
• Early in the season there was a lot of talk about what was wrong with LaMarr Woodley when he didn't record a sack in the first four games of the season. At the time it was pointed out here and over at Post Game Heroes that Woodley's sackless start was not necessarily anything to get worried about as he had been a streaky sacker in the past.
Now Woodley ranks sixth in the league with 11.5 sacks after dismantling Ravens backup right tackle Oniel Cousins in Sunday's win. And the Steelers are one of only two teams in the NFL with two sackers in double digits (fellow outside linebacker James Harrison has 10 sacks). Pittsburgh's defense has plenty of problems, but the outside linebackers aren't part of the issue.
• The Steelers' secondary is part of the issue with Pittsburgh's defense. The Steelers got their 10th interception of the season when James Farrior picked off Joe Flacco last week. That's tied with three other teams for 27th in the league. Three different players have nine interceptions this season.
