LaMarr Woodley: No One Wants to Play the Steelers

LaMarr Woodley isn't of the opinion that the Steelers have themselves to blame if they fail to make the playoffs this season. He thinks it will be the fault of the cowardly Patriots and Bengals who are going to roll over and play dead so that they won't have to face the Steelers in the first round of the playoffs.

"All of them will lay down," said Woodley. "No one wants to see Pittsburgh in there. That's just how it is. Everybody knows we're a dangerous team once we get into the playoffs no matter how we played throughout the whole year."

Note to Woodley: Perhaps next year it would be better to not wait until the playoffs to be a dangerous team if you want to actually make the playoffs. While we sympathize with the plight of the teams adversely impacted by the Colts' decision to add Curtis Painter to the Football Encyclopedia, it isn't like they are passive observers in this process. Woodley and the rest of the Steelers defenders that couldn't hold a lead for much of the year only have themselves to blame for relying on the kindness, or lack thereof, of strangers at this juncture.

The same goes for the Broncos, whose cause Dave Krieger of the Denver Post championed on Wednesday in a column assailing the NFL for choosing to make the Bengals-Jets game the Sunday nighter. Krieger argues that the NFL chose money over integrity -- stunning that a for-profit outfit like the NFL would make such a choice -- because the Bengals will know if they
have anything to play for before kickoff.

For what it's worth, Chad Ochocinco said that Marvin Lewis will be playing it like any other game but that's totally besides the point. But if he doesn't, he and Bill Belichick have earned the right to make that choice for themselves. The same goes for the Colts, even if you disagree with their decision to choose Painter over perfection.

Teams like the Steelers and Broncos should spend a little more time looking in the mirror to figure out why they're in this position in the first place instead of complaining about what other teams who took care of their business choose to do in the final weeks of the season.
