The Chiefs confirmed to FanHouse that former Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis will become the offensive coordinator in Kansas City.Chris Mortensen of ESPN was first to report that Weis has agreed to take the job. Weis could be officially announced as Kansas City's new offensive coordinator within 24 hours.
In Kansas City, Weis will work for head coach Todd Haley, an old friend who was a fellow assistant coach in the 1990s. Weis and Haley share a similar offensive philosophy, and at his press conference Wednesday Haley praised Weis as a great coach.
Haley is in the process of shaking up his coaching staff and has said that neither offensive line coach Joe D'Allessandris nor defensive line coach Tim Krumrie will return for the 2010 season.
Weis was fired by Notre Dame on Nov. 30 after compiling a 35-27 record over five seasons as head coach of the Irish. Just prior to his time in South Bend, Weis was a highly successful offensive coordinator for the Patriots -- New England won three Super Bowls in four years with Weis guiding the Patriots' Tom Brady-led attack.
