NBA TV Adds ESPN Vet Matt Winer

NBA TV, now operated by Turner Sports, has just added a ringer to its studio team. The network announced today that veteran ESPN anchor Matt Winer will join NBA TV as a studio host beginning later this month. Winer has been an anchor on ESPN's flagship SportsCenter for eight years, and was (in my opinion) the best among a rotating cast of hosts for ESPN's rotating collection of NBA studio shows.

While this addition starts 2010 off right for the network, NBA TV still can't be forgiven for taking Gary Payton away from us in 2009. Replacement Kevin McHale did just fun, as expected, but Payton's entertaining tenure was a real gift for viewers. If you're watching NBA TV regularly, you have an unhealthy relationship with pro basketball. An off-center dude like Payton can't hurt you.

Between Winer, Ernie Johnson and Marc Fein, I dare say TNT/NBA TV is beating ESPN/ABC 3-0 in the studio host wars. Sorry, Stu.
