Eric ManginiNew Cleveland Browns boss Mike Holmgren has reportedly decided to bring back head coach Eric Mangini.

"I was able to gain some tremendous insight into his thought process and philosophies, and came away from our meetings very impressed," Holmgren said in a statement Thursday. "In my opinion, Eric has gained the respect and admiration of players, coaches and others in the organization, and with him continuing to lead the team I feel that we are headed in the right direction.

"Working together, our goal is to build on the strong tradition of this franchise and help get the Browns back to the playoffs."

When Holmgren was hired, it appeared to be a strong sign that Mangini would be on the way out. But Holmgren has apparently decided to focus on revamping the Browns' personnel, and will give Mangini the 2010 season to prove that he can win with the players Holmgren brings in.

Holmgren and Mangini reportedly had a long meeting in Cleveland on Thursday.

In his first year as head coach of the Browns in 2009, Mangini led the team to a 5-11 season. But the Browns won their final four games, and that may have been enough to persuade Holmgren to give Mangini more time. Mangini will enter 2010 on the hot seat, but he'll also enter 2010 as the Cleveland Browns' head coach.
