Craig James Considers Run for Senate

Most people go into hiding when facing intense media scrutiny. Let the 24-hour news cycle do it's thing, let the "next big story" refocus the spotlight, and show your face after it's all blown over. Tiger Woods is an obvious example of this strategy.

ESPN analyst Craig James, however, is contemplating a run for the U.S. Senate. James' son Adam was in the news recently after then-Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach had him locked in an equipment room for, among other things, not being very tough. Leach has since been canned and Craig James realizes that fact might affect his political future.

"Any mom or dad who knew what we knew at the time that we knew it would've taken the same action that we did," he told WFFA-TV. "Whatever the consequences are, we didn't care about that. We cared about doing what was right and protecting and taking care of our son."

Whatever, James is ready to tackle issues bigger than Red Raiders football. Likes, say, the current state of our country.

"Why does the government have to be involved in everything we do? I think Americans today, if you placed us back in 1765, it would be the same scenario," James said. "We've got the American revolution taking place again."

I have no idea what that means. But if James is running on a platform of unintelligible pronouncements, I have a few other talking points for him:

* "I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family."
* "I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully."
* "Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream."
* "They misunderestimated me."

(Hey, if it's good enough to get one Texan elected president twice, it's good enough for James.)

James also added that if elected his first act as senator would be to have Mike Leach -- and all pirates currently living in Texas -- publicly flogged.*
