What a difference three games makes. On January 2, Alex Burrows was buried on the list of goal-scoring leaders for the Vancouver Canucks, sitting in seventh place with 10 goals. A week later, he's tied for second on the team with 17 thanks to a three-game stretch that's seen him fill back of the net seven times, including hat tricks in back-to-back games. On Thursday, Burrows scored three goals in Vancouver's 4-0 win against Phoenix (Roberto Luongo made 31 saves for the shutout) just 48 hours after he recorded a hat trick in a 7-3 romp over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
According to the AP, he's the first Canucks player to record a hat trick in consecutive games since Petri Skriko did it during the 1986-87 season.
Here's the goal that completed Thursday's hat trick:
And with that, here come the Canucks. A team that entered the regular season with high expectations (some people even picked them to win the Stanley Cup), the Canucks stumbled out of the gate to a 7-7 start. Since then, Vancouver is on a 20-9-1 run that has moved it into a tie for first place in the Northwest Division with the Calgary Flames.
