Texas Tech is reportedly set to hire former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville as its next head football coach, replacing the recently fired Mike Leach.

ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel reports that a news conference is set for Sunday at 3 PM ET to make the hiring official.

The early indications are that Texas Tech hired Tuberville in large part because it won't have to break the bank to bring him on board: Tuberville is apparently willing to keep Leach's coaching staff around rather than hire his own staff, and Tech won't have to pay Auburn anything to buy out Tuberville's contract. Leach and Texas Tech are likely headed to court to determine whether Texas Tech has to pay the remaining money on Leach's contract after Leach was fired for allegedly mistreating a player.

Tuberville spent 10 seasons at Auburn, averaged more than eight wins a year and had an undefeated season in 2004, but he was fired after he went 5-7 in 2008. Prior to his tenure at Auburn, Tuberville spent four seasons as the head coach at Ole Miss.
