Rolando McClain is leaving on a high note. The Butkus Award winning linebacker who led Alabama to the 2009 national championship, declared for the NFL draft Monday.
Considered a lock for the first round and a possible top -10 pick, the junior's announcement met with little surprise.
The 6-foot-4, 258-pound linebacker led Alabama with 105 tackles, 29 more than the next closest player, and tied for the team lead with 14.5 tackles-for-loss. McClain also recorded four sacks and intercepted two passes.
Elected a permanent team captain by his teammates, McClain anchored an Alabama defense that finished second in the nation in yardage allowed, rushing defense, passing efficiency and scoring defense.
McClain recorded four tackles, including two tackles-for-loss, and broke up two passes in the Crimson Tide's 37-21 national championship victory over Texas, despite suffering from a stomach virus in the days leading up to the game.
