Jose CansecoFormer major league slugger Jose Canseco abruptly canceled an appearance on CNN's Larry King Live Tuesday night, telling producers he was not not fit to do the interview.

"We received word from Jose Canseco, the former baseball star, saying, 'I am having a breakdown. I can't emotionally do it. I am emotionally drained. I am tired of defending myself,'" King said at the top of show.

Canseco was booked to talk about Mark McGwire, who admitted Monday to using steroids for a large portion of his career. CNN promoted Canseco's scheduled appearance throughout Tuesday.

"The former baseball player and the man who claims he introduced Mark McGwire to steroids says McGwire's confession that he used steroids isn't complete," King's blog read Tuesday. "Find out what McGwire didn't tell America about his steroid use!"

King said Canseco was welcome to appear on his show at a later date.

Canseco spoke to FanHouse Monday night about McGwire coming clean on his steroid use. In that interview, he said he thought his former Oakland Athletics teammate should have come forward years ago and said McGwire should still make it into Cooperstown.

Canseco said Monday that he had received dozens of phone calls from media members. He did an interview with Chicago's ESPN Radio affiliate earlier Tuesday.

"I've got no problems with a few of the things he's saying, but again, it's ironic and strange that Mark McGwire denies that I injected him with steroids. He's calling me a liar again," Canseco said on The Waddle & Silvy Show. "I've defended Mark, I've said a lot of good things about him, but I can't believe he just called me a liar."

Bret Saxon, Canseco's friend and agent, said he hadn't yet spoken to his client about what happened leading up to his scheduled interview.
