Eight of the twelve Michigan State football players who were suspended from the team for their involvement in a November 22nd dorm fight were reinstated today. Four other involved players are transferring out of the school. The reinstated players include five who were charged with misdemeanor assault and conspiracy to commit assault, and three others who will face no charges.B.J. Cunningham, J'Michael Deane, Mark Dell, Chris L. Rucker, and Fred Smith will face charges for their participation but are "on the team for right now," according to Spartan head coach Mark Dantonio. Ashton Leggett and Jamiihr Williams are also charged but will transfer.
Chris D. Rucker and Donald Spencer will face no charges and have returned to the team. Myles White was suspended for an unrelated incident and was also reinstated. Glenn Winston and Roderick Jenrette were previously dismissed from the team for their involvement. Their status has not changed.
Dantonio's "right now" comment indicates that the players could face future disciplinary action, or could simply indicate that they'll be on a short leash.
The fight also involved members of Michigan State's Iota Phi Theta fraternity. The preceding night, fraternity members and football players were involved in a skirmish at an off-campus nightclub.
