Will MuschampUniversity of Tennessee is in a feverish search to replace Lane Kiffin, but Vols administrators will have to keep looking if they had any thoughts of luring University of Texas defensive coordinator and head coach-in-waiting Will Muschamp.

While Internet rumors swirled Tuesday and Wednesday that Muschamp would be the top Tennessee target, Muschamp released a brief statement late Wednesday night pledging his commitment to the Longhorns. Tennessee was said to be willing to give Muschamp a seven-year, $21 million deal, according to some Internet rumors.

"I'm happy at Texas and plan to be here for a long time," Muschamp said in a statement released through the school's sports information department.

A lot of the rumors of Muschamp to Tennessee are rooted in Tennessee showing interest in 2008 before ultimately deciding on Kiffin. The Vols' interest and Muschamp's performance at Texas was enough to convince the Longhorns that they needed to do something to lock up their hot young defensive coordinator.

As a result, Muschamp received a salary boost to $900,000 per year, which is unheard of for an assistant coach at the major college level, and the assurance that he would be the Longhorns' next coach whenever Mack Brown decided to step down. There isn't a time frame for when that will be and that appears fine with Muschamp.
