Increased unhappiness at work is not just a reflection of the current recession. It is "a long-term trend that should be a red flag to employers," warned a Conference Board report this month.
"Through both economic boom and bust during the past two decades, our job satisfaction numbers have shown a consistent downward trend," said Lynn Franco, director of the group's Consumer Research Center.
One reason for the steady decline, the research found, is that fewer workers consider their jobs interesting. Many also complained that their incomes weren't keeping up with inflation and the rising cost of health insurance.
